Swiss watchmaker Hamilton, with its American heritage, presents a new, modern revival of the military chronograph built and supplied for the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the 1970s. The Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph is the main character, and it gives off a strong impression of a military vintage chronograph from the outside.
The Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph also resembles another previously released RAF re-issue model, the Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer Mechanical (Ref. H76419531). Although it has a crucial difference from its predecessor, which is a three-hand model, that it has a chronograph function. The design of the barrel-shaped case with a streamlined and elegant silhouette is also visible.
Most of the stainless steel case is brushed to reflect the design code of the military watch’s signature matte design. The diameter of the case is 40mm and the thickness is 14.35mm, and it is relatively slim even considering the front box-shaped sapphire crystal treated with anti-reflection coating.
The dial is always black. It continues the matte code again by giving the whole grainy finish. This prevents diffuse reflection of light to ensure readability and adds to the aesthetics of military replica hamilton watches. The white lacquered hands and the dots that replace the hour markers are coated with beige Super-LumiNova that reproduces the old radium tone to emphasize the vintage impression. It is for the same reason that the brand logo, minute track, and chronograph counter borders are unified with a beige print.
Although it is a chronograph product, the secret to the relatively slim case thickness lies in the movement. It was decided to continue the manual chronograph caliber H-51, the engine of the Intra-matic Chronograph H, which we added to the collection last year (although the original military-supplied vintage model from the 1970s was also manual!). In the automatic version (H-31) based on the reliable ETA 7753, modifications were made such as removing the rotor and calendar wheel and date discs, replacing some winding parts, etc., and omitting the date display function, so it was placed on the side of the case in the past. Of course, you cannot see the corrector where it was located. Hamilton reinforces the new Khaki Pilot Pioneer mechanical chronograph model with the H-51-Si version implanted with a magnetically insensitive silicon balance spring. It has a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour (4 Hz) and a power reserve of about 60 hours. The case waterproof specification is 100m.
The strap was intentionally rough finished using a brown-colored cowhide strap, and the stitching was unified with the same color. With a lug size of 22mm, you can freely switch to other aftermarket straps and enjoy the so-called file file.
The Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical Chronograph (Ref. H76409530) continues to be released as a regular model rather than a limited edition, priced at 1,995 Swiss Francs (CHF). The domestic release date and time have yet to be determined.
